ColorChoice and ColorChoice 2 Software Support

ColorChoice was originally a Roland OEM'd product by Amiable - similar but not the same as the Amiable PhotoPRINT product. ColorChoice was bundled with the Hi-Fi, CammJet, SolJet, PC-12, and PC-600.

ColorChoice was an Adobe PostScript3 RIP that allowed users to print directly from any application and provided direct drag-and-drop capabilities. ColorChoice was an ICC compatible RIP with dual rendering intent support as well as built-in ink and medial profiles. With ColorChoice, the Roland Hi-Fi and CammJet machines were able to simulate over 97% of PMS colors by utilizing licensed Pantone Hexachrome support within the ColorChoice software.

Colorchoice 2 was a version upgrade of ColorChoice. It was available in two versions, Colorchoice 2 and Colorchoice 2 plus. The file processing was improved over ColorChoice, PDF 1.4 was supported, and color gradients were improved over ColorChoice v4.5. ColorChoice 2 plus included nesting, cropping, and tiling of jobs as well as parallel support of up to three printers. ColorChoice 2 also allowed for custom ICC file creation.

Colorchoice (Amiable) was replaced by Colorchoice2 (Amiable), which was replaced by SelectColor (Amica) which was replaced by ColorRIP (Wasatch) which was a Roland OEM'd version of Wasatch SoftRIP. ColorRIP was replaced on Roland machines by VersaWorks which was developed in-house.

Amiable merged with Scanvec to form ScanvecAmiable [SA International], which now produces the Flexi line of signmaking software. ColorChoice and ColorChoice 2 are no longer available as supported products. ScanvecAmiable still produces the original PhotoPRINT RIP product.

Wasatch is still producing SoftRIP, which is more fully featured than the original ColoRIP OEM'd version.

As a historical note, the Select Color OEM'd version by Amica came out from the original principals of Amiable, after they merged Amiable into Scanvec and then left Scanvec. Select Color was taken off the market when Amica lost a court case with Scanvec over intellectual property rights. Amica also produced their own flagship product called ColorPRINT, which was similar to the ScanvecAmiable PhotoPrint product.
