Roland SJ Printer FAQs

The Roland SolJet SJ printer series was introduced with the SJ-600/500 in 2002, allowing prints on vinyl with solvent ink. It augmented the FJ aqueous line which ran on paper with pigment or dye ink. The SJ series replaced the CJ series and was subsequently replaced by the XJ and AJ series.

The SJ machines were originally set up for solvent inks. The SJ-1000, SJ-740, SJ-640, and SJ-540 could be converted to EcoSol and VersaWorks when these became available in 2005. The converted models took on a 5 number. Models with an "EX" suffix were fitted with an extra heater as well. Subsequent SJ-1045 models came out with the heater pre-installed, and did not carry the EX moniker.

The SJ Series excluding the SJ-600 and SJ-500 are part of the "PRO-2" or "PROII" architecture group, and use the PRO-2 firmware. When combined with the EX heater and the "5" suffix, these became the PROII-V machines.
